WRECKS

REIYO MARU

Naval miscellaneous Auxiliary

2010 This was the first time I have dived the Reiyo. Great wreck. The viz was good, Ship standing bolt upright. I didnt look too hard in the holds, went into hold # 2 and all I saw was a wheel barrow. Spent most of the dive taking pictures of the outside of the ship.

At the start of the dive Simon and I went into the engineroom. Didnt get too much time in there taking a few picks of some steam pressure gauges. More details of the wreck below.

Bow section, this is where the Bell was found by Dave Wilkins in 2009. All he could see was the rim of the bell but unfortunately didnt identify it till he was back looking over his footage. Had to come back a second time!! Along with Des who came last year also they fould the bell and pulled it out of the silt. I didnt manage to get any pictures of it myself but Simon Mitchell did. I will try and get the picture to put up.

There was not much in the holds as it was pretty collapsed. All I saw of any note was a wheel barrow in hold # 2.

Midships the decking has been burnt away during the conflict all the skylights to the engineroom are open and the air intake funnels are all mostly intact.
