HMNZS CANTERBURY

Last weekend I went to dive the Canterbury for the first time. Having completed a lot of hours on the Waikato which is exactly the same class of frigate I thought it would be that interesting. - how wrong I was. Here are a few pictures of the weekend.

This is panoramic view of the wheelhouse. Shot compiled of 4 images stitched together.

various bow shots. The wreck is lying completely upright. Some of the pictures I have angled to give a little movement in the shots but the wreck is sitting plum upright!

Shane and his sidekick Darryl from Northland dive. I was really impressed with these guys. They are slick operators and really relaxed. We had a fantastic weekend at the Cowshed. Its the only place that I know that houses, feeds and accommodates divers. I found the whole experience to be well worth the drive. Whats more its only about 20 minutes longer than driving to Tutukaka. During our surface intervals we stopped off at a beautiful beach location where we had a massive array of sandwich fillings and fresh bread. Then we could go for gold and put whatever we wanted in them. Believe me there were some amazing concoctions!!!!

Then back to base where we would relax and have a glass of well deserved Merlot! If you are thinking of heading to dive the wreck these guys are the people to contact. Doesnt matter if you are a new diver, or experienced they will look after your diving needs.  I will be looking forward to going back and staying at the Cowshed again.
