Tech Rebreather Courses

PADI TEC40 CCR Diver

The Tec 40 CCR Diver is an entry-level tec program in two senses:

  • It is intended for recreational divers who are entering technical diving and
  • it is intended for technical open circuit divers entering tec CCR diving. It is the fi rst of three technical diving courses built around CCR technology.

These three courses are:

  • Tec 40 CCR Diver – entry-level tec CCR no stop and limited deco diving to 40m max with air diluent
  • Tec 60 CCR Diver – use of air and trimix diluent for CCR deco diving to 60 metres
  • Tec 100 CCR Diver – use of trimix diluent for CCR diving to 100 metres

Standards at a glance.

Prerequisites:

  • PADI Enriched Air Diver (or qualifying certifi cations from another training organization,)

  • PADI Deep Diver or proof of 10 dives to 30 metres, deeper than 18 metres

  • 18 years old

  • PADI Rescue Diver

  • 50 logged dives (at least 10 using EANx)

Ratios:

4:1; 6:1 with certified assistant

Equipment:

As required by General Standards and the environment; Type T rebreather listed by PADI Office

Gases:

Air diluent; oxygen; EANx allowed if specified by manufacturer

Depths:

Maximum depth not to exceed 40 metres. Individual dives have differing minimum and maximum depths.

Minimum Number of Dives:

2 confi ned water or limited open water, 6 open water

PADI TEC60 CCR Diver

Reflecting these instructional philosophies and changes in tec diving, the Tec 60 CCR Diver is a mid-level tec program. It is intended for divers who have mastered and gained experience with entry-level use of a Type T rebreather, and who have mastered and gained experience with foundational tec diving principles. The Tec 60 CCR Diver course trains divers to make multiple stop decompression dives to depths as deep as 60 metres using air and nonhypoxic trimix diluent.

Prerequisites:

  • Tec 40 CCR Diver or qualifying certifi cation from another training organization,
  • proof of 150 logged dives, with at least 25 dives and 50 hours experience diving the Type T CCR used in the course with an offboard bailout system following Tec 40 CCR Diver principles.
  • At least 10 of these dives must be deeper than 30 metres

Ratios:

4:1; 6:1 with certified assistant

Equipment:

As required by General Standards and the environment; Type T CCR

Gases:

Air, heliox and nonhypoxic trimix (oxygen content 16% or higher) diluents; air, enriched air, heliox and trimix bailout gases – see individual dive requirements

Depths:

Maximum depth not to exceed 60 metres

Minimum Number of Dives:

1 confined water or limited open water, 6 open water dives

PADI TEC100 CCR Diver

The Tec 100 CCR Diver course is an upper-level tec program. It is intended for divers who have mastered and gained experience with entry-level use of a Type T rebreather, and who have mastered it and gained experience to 60 metres in the Tec 60 CCR Diver course (or a qualifying course by another training organization). These divers should already have well established motorskills related to decompression diving with a CCR. They should understand the basic principles and theories involved with deep CCR tec diving, and be ready to extend what they’ve mastered to diving with gases that are not breathable at the surface.

Prerequisites:

  • Tec 60 CCR Diver or qualifying certification from another training organization,
  • proof of 175 logged dives, with at least 50 dives and 100 hours experience diving the Type T CCR used in the course while using offboard bailout systems.
  • At least 25 of these dives must be multistop decompression dives deeper than 40 metres using trimix or heliox diluent.

Ratios:

Ratios change with the training dive.

Equipment:

As required by General Standards and the environment; Type T CCR

Gases:

Air, heliox and trimix diluents; air, enriched air, heliox and trimix bailout gases

Depths:

Maximum depth not to exceed 100 metres

Minimum Number of Dives:

1 confined water or limited open water, 5 open water dives
