BLUE LAGOON RESORT TRUK LAGOON
When I first started researching about diving in truk, the first thing I thought about was - Why not go on the liveaboards? After all, it sounds the best way to go - right??? Well, all those thoughts went straight out of the window as soon as I saw Blue Lagoon Dive Resort. We had massive amounts of space, freedom, huge airconditioned ensuit rooms, huge menus to choose from, and the most strategically positioned for the wrecks! Most of the liveaboards are "floating hotels" that stay in the same areas for a period of days, then move once or twice during the trip. Some liveaboards, move to each site. This , again at first sounds like a plan - but when you get 12-15 people descending onto the same wreck it takes the shine off the dive very quickly. With our policy of a max of 6 people per boat and 1 boat per wreck ensures that everyone has the best opportunities to dive clear water wrecks not in a dust cloud!!
The resort is situated at the south eastern side of Moen Island, Gateway to the wrecks of truk lagoon!
With their own private little beach you can dissapear, read a book, relax and take time out inbetween dives!!
It really is paradise lost!
The resort main entrance
The western wing gardens
These are the standard rooms, each room is twin share or a double. You can see that both beds are doubles so one person doesnt have to rough it in a single!! Every room has air con and also a fan. TV (never switched it on so not sure what tv shows there are!!!!) mini fridge for you cold drinks or even for putting a few beers from the market shop in after a great days diving!!!!
The rooms are made up each day
Each room has an ensuite and toilet. Shower bath and plenty of water to go round!!! There is even fresh drinking water put in the rooms free of charge each day!!They also have toiletries, shampoo, soap etc for your use.
This is the type of view EVERY room has. There are NO "garden view" rooms as all rooms overlook the lagoon!!!
Unwinding after a hard day diving!!!
FULL WIRELESS INTERNET AVAILABLE
There is FULL internet access, wireless or hard wire. it isnt broadband speed but its faster than dial up so if you need to keep in touch with the outside world the facility is available to do so. All you need to do is purchase a internet card and its round $0.08c per MB
There are 2 bars available to enjoy a "sundowner!" Pictured here is the outside bar. This is where all the "scheming" gets done for the next days diving.
One of the things most on peoples minds when they go away is getting sick from badly prepared food or the lack of options if you are there for 2 weeks. On all of our trips noone has had any major problems with being sick from the food which is unprecidented!! With over 40 main dishes to choose from, Sushimi to die for and presented quickly and effortlessly AND HOT!!!! So there are no hidden problems here with the food!!!
The Chuukese people are modest, proud people who always greet you with a welcoming smile, welcome you in and bend over backwards to make your stay a memorable experience. THE BLUE LAGOON DIVE SHOP
View of inside the dive shop
There is plenty of Truk T shirts to full your wardrobe (seeing you didnt have any room for any clothes!!!!)
Dedicated gearing up area and stowage of gear.
Large secure stowage areas for all your expensive gear! Security is really good and again, in the years that I have been in truk NOONE has had anything stolen from them.
On all expeditions here we make sure that we have all the gas that we will need and special shipments are added to accomodate for technical divers.. We make sure that there is more than enough Helium and O2 for all your needs. If we have large groups of open circuit divers, then we make sure that we extend the shipments to accomodate for this.
A haskel booster, which is worked hard!!!!
By far the most impressive dive set up I have ever seen in the tropics. Here BLDS has not 2 but 4 highly maintained HP compressors so there is NO chance of there being any down days due to a broken down compressor!!!! Just look how well looked after these units are. They really take pride in their systems.
The air filling station
BLDS has a fleet of 12 high speed dive vessels. These are one of the most stable diving platforms I have used. More than enough space for 6 divers and guide to comfortably dive off.
Decompression is a breeze sitting under the boats!
Every trip all the dive guides and boat skippers put on a BBQ for us all and they present us with momentos of our fantastic trip. What a great way to finish a trip!!
