MIKHAIL LERMONTOV

LENINGRAD RESTAURANT

It has taken me many many trips to get down to the Leningrad restaurant. Three floors down those collapsing winding staircases is enough for the hardiest diver to shiver with doubt! Recently on our Oct 08 trip ozzi CD Dave Pearce and I spent some quality time in the restaurant. Here is some pictures I took of the place.

Navigating three floors down winding stairwells really can disorientate you. Because the ship is on its side when you go down one floor you have to ascend down the staircase, then descend along the same floor, then ascend down another flight of stairs!!!!! Confusing? Try it in the wreck!!!!

On top of that we have to constantly watch out for hazards. Pictured above is a door balancing on a collapsing stairwell.

This is the doorway we have to go through into the wreck Note the badly laid line from other inexperienced divers. We spend a lot of time taking out crappy laid line from idiot wreck divers who have no respect for wreck eticate

In the middle of the restaurant is a piano (pictured above and right) and it is crammed with chairs and other debris. So much care must be taken not to dislodge anything as it will come tumbling down on you!

I just changed the position of the picture so you can see the piano upright. Still fully intact. Pity the keys aren't shown as the cover is down!

More debris. Shown here is a table candle vase and other artifacts.

Artifacts are strewn everywhere. Here pictured is a platter laying beside a heater

See if you can see a dinner plate!!!!!!

Here is an amazing sight. Looking directly upward you can see the port holes. Viz in the restaurant is good but VERY silty. Not only is it silty but also has massive amounts of rust stalactites. I have only ever been in this place once with an open circuit diver - FRIGHTENING!

This is as a result of us ascending and blowing a bit of gas out to stay neutral. See how the bubbles run up the ceiling and showers silt down on you. With an open circuit diver in here will destroy the viz to zero within minutes!

Here are the culprits!! Just waiting for unsuspecting divers to shower down a world of rust on top of them.
